Develop potential processes and fixture designed for quoting and estimating. Perform research, design, and development of manufacturing processes for welding fabricated metal components including fixtures, production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment design.
Develop welding techniques and procedures, and applications of welding equipment to products requiring the joining of fabricated metal components. Participate and actively contribute in engineering design reviews for new welded products and welding equipment/fixtures.
Knowledge of robotic and PLC programming. Maintain welding robots, manual and automated weld fixtures.
Support continuous improvement activities in weld department.
Conduct research/investigations to develop and test new welding processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, and develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and/or procedures.
Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel. Direct/coordinate personnel in performing inspections to ensure compliance with established welding procedures, standards, and in testing welds for compliance with requirements.
Evaluate developments in the welding field for possible application to current welding problems and/or production processes. Coordinate, monitor, document, and report on continuous improvement activities.
Collaborate with Quality Assurance in developing systems, policies and procedures to support QS requirements, in developing and implementing procedures for non-destructive evaluation of welds, and in resolving quality related issues on weld fixtures, equipment and processes.
Develop/communicate throughout the corporation, a detailed understanding of customer, AWS and ASME welding standards and codes.
Monitor weld equipment vendor performance with emphasis on delivery, cost, quality, order compliance and capacity.
Assist with safety initiatives. Incorporate safety requirements into process/equipment designs.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or equivalent work experience. Previous experience in an industrial manufacturing environment preferred.
Computer literacy required.
Project assignments can be multi-tasked and involvement with various departmental associates will be necessary.
