“It all started with a sprocket…
Back in 1965, John C. McGregor Sr., purchased Morgal Machine Tool Company from his friend and neighbor, Frank Morgal, who started the company in 1939.
Back then, Morgal was an eight-employee tool and die shop with $68,000 in annual sales. Recognizing a need in the industry for quality stamped sprockets, Mr. McGregor and Morgal embarked on an impressive 30 year period of growth as the go-to supplier for sprockets in everything from bicycles to riding lawn mowers, changing the company now known as McGregor into a supplier of parts rather than a supplier of dies.
Over the years, the McGregor family added other capabilities to our Springfield-based metalworking operations, creating an operation that could handle the full gamut of complex projects - from manufacturing component parts like sprockets or metal stampings while also handling welding and assembly. We even added metal spinning capabilities in the mid-1990s, making spun, multi-groove pulleys one of our core niches - driving major cost savings for many of our customers. Over the years, we’ve entered new industries, namely American automotive, and grown our team to over 350 employees spread out between four plants.
Today, we are known as McGregor Metal. Springfield-based and family-built with John’s grandson Jamie carrying on the McGregor legacy, we couldn’t be prouder of where we’ve come from and where we’re going.
We think Springfield is pretty great. Take a look at some of our go-to hometown spots.
